Position Classification: Chaplain
Remuneration:  The role of NSW Peer Support Officer is voluntary and therefore without remuneration

About the role
 

Multi Faith Chaplains provide confidential pastoral care, spiritual guidance, psychological first aid (PFA) and wellbeing support to NSW Ambulance staff, their families, patients and bystanders in the event of traumatic or stressful incidents. Support may be at the site of an incident, at a hospital, or in the workplace.

 

Chaplains may help employees, patients, and bystanders to access other faith based pastoral care or welfare services in the wider community should that be requested. Chaplains may also provide representation at baptisms, weddings, funerals, and other ceremonies or religious services where a Chaplain may be required or requested.

ABOUT YOU

We are after individuals who are committed to providing non-judgmental support to paramedics and community members, irrespective of their faith, beliefs, social position or religious background.

Do you have relevant qualifications in Chaplaincy or Pastoral care appropriate to the position? (See Role Description)

Do you want to make a significant contribution to your community by being a positive influence and offering support and genuine help?

Do you have a current NSW Driver License, current first aid certificate and the ability to provide a minimum of 4 hours volunteer work per week or 8 hours per fortnight?

 

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

  •  A NSW Working with Children Check clearance number is required prior to your appointment to the role.
  • Successful candidate is required to comply with the Occupational Assessment, Screening and vaccination against Specific Infectious Disease Policy.
  • Chaplains are not paid for their honorary/volunteer role with NSW Ambulance; however travel expenses, phone calls and other costs associated with the duties of a chaplain will be reimbursed following the presentation of appropriate documentation and in liaison with the Senior Chaplain
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a satisfactory conduct and services check, which includes referee/supervisor check, a review of National Police Check and review of Service Check Register.
  • Chaplains are provided with NSW Ambulance uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as a reflective vest and a hardhat which are consistent with the responsibilities of the role.
  • To allow the chaplain to carry out their duties safely and efficiently, they are also provided with an ID card, portable radio and mobile phone (if required).
  • NSW Ambulance will provide suitable induction training and orientation to the chaplain and may provide access to ongoing training opportunities and professional development.
