Where you'll be working
The Sutherland Hospital is a 320 bed Major Metropolitan Teaching Hospital affiliated with the University of NSW, located in the Sutherland Shire 25 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. A 44 bed Emergency Department which includes 3 resuscitation bays, dedicated Adult and Paediatric Fast Track areas, an 8 bed ED Short Stay Unit, a collocated Radiology Department with CT scanner. The addition of 60 new acute inpatient beds, including 6 additional ICU beds and a 16 bed General Medical Unit. There are 24hr diagnostic services and excellent support from Mental Health, ICU and community/aged care services and nursing staff. Sutherland Hospital provides a 24/7 Interventional Cardiology service. Inpatient services include most subspecialties; General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Urology, Vascular Surgery, Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Oncology, Renal, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Mental Health.
What you'll be doing
A 3 month rotation to the Department of Anaesthetics at Sutherland Hospital. During this rotation you will working Monday to Friday 40 hours a week with no out of hours component. This will be under the direct supervision of a Consultant Anaesthetist.
A 3 month rotation to ICU with a full rotating roster. This position will be under the supervision of the ICU Consultant and ICU Trainee.
6 months in the Emergency Department with a full rotating roster. This position will be under the supervision of FACEMs and Emergency Trainees.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered (or eligible to be registered) with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Completion of three postgraduate years
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Preparedness and ability to participate in a 24 hour shift work roster including on-call in the Emergency Department and ICU.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and demonstrated good organisational and time management skills.
- Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education.
- Ability and willingness to work at the facility to deliver patient care. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Previous ED SRMO experience preferred.
