What you'll be doing
Positions in the Surgical Skills Training Networks are for junior doctors who are working towards entry into the Surgical Education and Training Program with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. These networked positions require rotations through several hospitals. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the doctor’s skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Completed GSSE (or MRCS or equivalent). Completed/waitlisted a minimum of two RACS required courses; CCrISP, EMST/ATLS, ASSET, CLEAR
- A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters.
- Demonstrated commitment to the General Surgical Training Program (GSET) and evidence of progress towards and application.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills and judgment and expertise.
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Interest and ability to be involve in departmental teaching/presentation/research and student mentoring.
- A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters.
